Merry Christmas!
Jesus came for the lost, the weary, the broken— he knows darkness like none other. Who else can say that dark is as light to him? (Psalm 139:12) But he is the light of the world (John 8:12).
This picture doesn’t really evoke the holidays at first glance. It’s probably not December, there’s no presents or bright lights, or even smiles. Honestly, I don’t even know what country this is except that it looks somewhere in Southeast Asia. Some of these people probably have never even heard of the gospel and live on very minimal day to day. A contrast to the extravagance that most of us in America are used to, even in the recession. A reminder that Jesus loved to sit with the poor, that he came for such as these.
Matthew 5:3-10
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for the will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
What words of life, of comfort and hope to these (unknown to them at first) forerunners! To the world, worthless, but in God’s eyes riches beyond compare. This Christmas, I am learning to be thankful for what I have, but also to let love weigh heavier than the empty promises of this world. When time comes, and moth and rust have their bidding, can I stand before Him and say that I brought His kingdom? I want to know what it means to have nothing, yet everything in Him.
This song has been running through my mind alot, “Never Gonna Leave Me Dry” by Cory Asbury. Thanks to His cross, we can sing it.
Hear me, O Lord, when I cry
I am broken, I’m thirsty, and I’m dry
God make complacency my enemy and Your fight
And let desperation be like David’s key in my life
Surely goodness and mercy follow me
My cup runneth over
My cup runneth over
And the broken and the contrite
You have yet to deny
I lay before You
I lay bare before You
And You’re never gonna leave me dry
No You don’t
No You don’t
No You don’t
You’re always willing
My cup You’ll be filling
You fill us with Your love
Overwhelm us with Your love
Take us from the ashes and seat us with princes
It’s what You do
It’s just what You do
love, Jeanelle
